I just made a pastoral visit to an elderly lady at our church who has been having heart issues and surgeries. She's been a bit discouraged by the whole situation. She is a believer, but she's been going through a tough time. When I came into her house, her sister was there to help her out. So I spent a few minutes talking to both of them and getting to know her sister from out of state. We talked about family and politics, since the RNC has been going on. I then mentioned that I should get going soon, and asked if I could share a brief devotion. I read her 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:9. I then shared some of my own reflections on those verses. That despite all we're going through, we shouldn't loose heart, because as 4:16 says, "Though our outer-self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day." And vs 17 says, "this light and momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison." I encouraged her to keep her eyes on Jesus as she goes through these trials and difficulties. Ultimately he will wipe away every tear in heaven, and we will be with Him forever as he takes away all sickness, death, and suffering. That will be greater than anything we experience, and completely worth it all. After I shared, and she made a few comments. A few tears were shed. I offered to pray for her. So I asked the Lord to encourage and strengthen her in the middle of her health issues. Then I ended, said my goodbyes, and left.

Read Gen 41 Pray for faith in God even during times when we feel forgotten. Joseph was thrown into jail for something he didn't do. He was not glorified but God was glorified. Joseph was left in jail for several years, and he was not glorified but God was glorified. He was forgotten by the cup bearer whom he helped and Joseph was not glorified but God was glorified. Joseph was brought into Pharos court and though Joseph could have grasped at glory gave it all to God. We were not made to be glorified, that only belongs to God. God can be glorified at all times even when we are being humiliated.

Philippians 4:4-7: Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness[d] be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Prayer: Lord God in heaven, we thank you that you carry our burdens and long to give us peace. As we look to your Word, we ask that you would guide our thoughts, guard our minds, and encourage us in the faith. Help us to respond to your Spirit and follow in your ways. In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever, amen. There are times when it is difficult to rejoice in the Lord. When our lives are filled with sorrow, stress, or anxiety, we can feel that the Lord is distant. The Apostle Paul exhorts the believers in Philippi to rejoice, not just once, but again. He is suggesting that we are always looking for ways to rejoice. If we cannot find something to be thankful for in the moment, we can always be thankful that Christ has died for us and our future is secure. When we spend the time to be thankful, we can find the peace of Christ seeping into our thoughts and our lives. Though our problems may not immediately be removed, we can know that God is trustworthy as the Holy Spirit ushers the assurance of God's love for us. Once we rejoice, we can be honest with the Lord and give our concerns, hurts, and desires to him. Once we realize that God has the best plan for our lives and we submit our petitions to him, the peace of Christ is evident. May we be rejoicing in every moment, trusting the Lord, thus receiving the peace of Christ.

We are to have a relationship that is vulnerable and supportive. We ought to be thankful for one another and exhort one another with the words of Christ, namely the forgiveness of sins. Additionally, Jesus prayed that we would be one in John 17 and when we support one another we are fulfilling that prayer.

Simply picking up the phone and asking. Taking an interest in the church leader and their families is important. It is also essential that the church member see the pastor and church leaders as people, part of the body of Christ.
