Recent #MeToo and #ChurchToo movements, and high-profile abuse cases, have made power imbalance and abuse a hot topic. Christian Conciliators need to know how to navigate these serious issues. The culture demands a victim-centric approach to abuse allegations (including mandatory investigations, public exposure, and worldly justice). In contrast, this workshop aims to educate Christians Conciliators with a biblical perspective of power and abuse issues, while encouraging them to maintain a Christ-centric and trauma-informed approach to biblical peacemaking that offers hope for redemption for both victim and offender.

Homework is the Conflict Coach’s secret weapon! As conflict coaches, the most productive time parties spend is often in reflecting on God’s word and how it applies to their conflict. Therefore, one of the most effective things we can do is to provide meaningful homework for their reflection. Many resources are available to you for this task! This workshop will explore options for creating quality homework assignments, including the new Homework Dashboard! You will also hear inspiring stories of how God worked through various homework assignments to bring about miracles of reconciliation.

The success of building rapport or what AoR calls “passport” hinges on the reconciler’s ability to effectively express empathy. It takes social currency to build agreement to work with a conflicted party. Even in some of the most stonewalled situations, accurately applied empathy can reduce anxiety and resistance enough to open the door you need to initiate open dialog and/or increase permission to remain engaged. This workshop offers a cut-to-the-chase guide to hone your expressions of empathy within a posture of transparent care. Practicing with a co-reconciler can offer early gains in building passport towards your goal of healing relationships.

In this workshop you will hear from an attorney who was sued in the middle of a mediation/arbitration proceeding and successfully vindicated in the local secular court and on appeal. Even when there is a lot of smiling and backslapping in these cases, we are still called to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. Do you know how to adequately prepare in advance to avoid liability in these types of cases? Come and learn how you can bullet-proof your conciliation practice. It’s true, becoming a Certified Christian Conciliator isn’t for everyone, but you might want to know why so many are choosing to begin this journey.

In this workshop you will learn about the Institute for Christian Conciliation and the equipping of highly skilled and trained peacemakers who become Certified Christian Conciliators. The process is rigorous but through education, training, advisement and opportunities for interactions those in the program find their lives changed and their opportunities for ministry increased.
