Coaching at a Glance

Almost everyone can benefit from this training, since all of us at times give advice to others on responding to conflict. This training is especially helpful for church leaders, since the church is meant to be a place where its members can seek help in applying God’s message of reconciliation to their personal conflicts.

We understand, this isn't for everyone

Hide Technology Reqs

The successful student in this course will be familiar with and comfortable with these online technologies. Throughout the course we will switch between these various modes of presentation and connection. Your proficiency with these will be valuable to your learning experience. You are encouraged to try out each below. The backbone of them all is your internet connection. You can check your internet speed here.

The other requirement for a successful online learning experience is a sufficiently fast tablet or laptop because it will be processing a lot of video data. If you're not sure about your setup, please call us and we can help you test it out! If you can easily watch Youtube and other video streams, then you're probably okay.

The role play experience is one thing that sets this training apart. We will utilize Coach's Corner, AoR's video chat room customized for reconcilers. This facilitates your working with another student and allows the instructor to observe and offer feedback. It  requires a camera, mic and speakers on your computer. Check it out here. Be sure to try the video connection to ensure your mic and camera are connecting.

Feedback From Most Students

Who Should Attend?

Everyone will Benefit!

This practicum is ideal for anyone who advises others in conflicts. Thus, pastors, principals, elders and other lay leaders, teachers, business owners, executive and mid-level managers, counselors, social workers, human resource managers, and parents all benefit from this training. But in reality, anyone who has the opportunity to advise others on dealing with a specific conflict will enjoy this training.

Benefits

You will learn how to assist people in conflict. You’ll study key Scripture passages and acquire new tools for remembering the basic principles and applying them in everyday conflicts. Past participants report how they used these tools and principles to help others resolve everything from family squabbles to complicated lawsuits.

Getting to the Heart

A Special Training Feature

A special feature of this training includes “Getting to the Heart of Conflict,” wherein participants will learn how to recognize the idolatry that often underlies conflict. As part of this module, students do an actual self-examination to learn about their own idolatrous temptations, and are invited to take part in a private confession and forgiveness exercise. Ministry leaders will find this training extremely practical and useful for coaching others.

The Coaching Process

BeReconciledPie1_Color_v2.jpg

The coach assists the person to check his mindset in three ways:

  • First, the coach draws out the person’s story through active listening.

  • Second, the coach notes emotional responses and repeating themes and patterns that give insight to a person’s heart.

  • Using what he learns, the coach then leads the person to embrace a Christ-centered perspective about himself, the other person, and the situation.

Under Be Reconciled to God, the coach applies 2 Corinthians 5:20, where the Apostle Paul writes: “We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”

Here the coach guides the person to be reconciled to God using three approaches:

  • First, the coach applies appropriate Scripture verses. He doesn’t depend on his personal wisdom, but instead points to God’s Word for direction.

  • Next, the coach helps the party to uncover his or her idols. With patience, the party is then moved to repent before God.

  • Third, the coach proclaims God’s forgiveness. This good news from the Gospel provides comfort and encouragement to the party, empowering him or her to live out reconciliation with others.

The coach prepares the party for reconciliation to others.

  • He teaches and encourages the person to initiate contact with the other person and go for reconciliation.

  • Next, he prepares the party to confess, to forgive, or to restore the other person.

  • Before sending the person off to reconcile, the coach prays with the person and encourages him or her for reconciliation.
