Joshua 1:8 God's people shall meditate on it day and night, being careful to follow the precepts noted in God's Holy Word. The benefit of this is that God will grant you success and prosper your ministry.

Colossians 3:16 The leaders of the church should have the Word of Christ dwelling within them, teaching others and admonishing or encouraging younger members in the faith with wisdom, the singing of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs and have a thankful heart.

The Apostle urges us to keep a close watch on ourselves and on the teachings of Jesus. If YOu stay close to the teachings of Christ and follow them, then you are as a child of God keeping a close watch on yourself as the Holy Spirit will work in your life to both encourage you in your faith journey and to convict you of your sins when you step out of bounds with God's teachings.

In today's culture, this can be accomplished by keeping the commandments and not having a potty mouth for starters, speaking respectfully both with and to others, Not using coarse language or profanity. It can also be accomplished by conducting yourself in the following ways, not partaking in the group derision of the boss or management teams, being on time for work, school, appointments, etc, giving your best effort in everything that one does or says. One big yet simple area is to remain faithful to your spouse and not engage in emotional or physical affairs.

To be above reproach in this instance is to be dependent on the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, to convict us of our sins os that we may confess them and be made righteous by God and through God so that we are above reproach in the horizontal kingdom while remaining dependent on God in the Vertical kingdom receiving the Means of Grace so that we can proclaim the Gospel message of salvation and forgiveness to all those we encounter.
