Regularly scheduled check ins by lay leaders can be a pastoral call. Other subtle ways to make a call is to inquire about their well being, provide compliments or feedback, offers of help, engage in regular conversation. Don't let the term pastoral call make it appear as though this is a stiff and formal thing

Board of Elders provides pastoral care. It should be a village of people that help provide the necessary care for our pastors and their families.

Most of the time I just drop by and stick my head in their door to see how they are doing. If I sense something I'll gently probe but leave it up them whether or not they want to talk

I would hope the Elected Elders would provide spiritual care to our pastors and families

Spiritual: Pray for them, be available to assist them as needed, volunteer to take things off their plates as we are able and qualified.; Church Responsibilities: We can look for ways to help shoulder the burden of ministry. There are many needs within the congregation.; Family: We should encourage them to make sure they have quality family time. I believe quality is just as important, if not more important, the quantity.; Physical: Stress can have a dramatic impact on the physical well-being of our Staff. We should seek ways to reduce stress; Mental: Stress also affects mental health. ; Social: We should allow them times to just be themselves and not feel they must put their "church worker" cap on.; Financial: I think salaries have been either frozen or maybe a small increase from time to time. We might want to brainstorm ways to more effectively communicate our financial needs to congregants.

Church members should hold our professional and lay staff in high esteem. We should be sensitive to how the are doing and doing what we can to support and encourage them.

Developing a long rage plan that includes short term goals might curb some of the we-they attitudes. Members would have common goals to work toward which would get us pulling in the same direction. A long range plan would help people see where they could plug in and it might reduce the belly aching and complaining.

Hopefully the board would be more sensitive to what God's will is

Time to process the information would permit better discussion

Developing a long range ministry plan and effectively communicating that plan would solve many of our problems. There would be a reason for meetings, ways to create meaningful volunteer opportunities, a reason to belong, and something to work toward along side other members instead of belly aching and complaining.

I'm not sure as I'm just now coming on the Board of Elected Elders.

I first of all need to stay close to God! That would allow me to be a positive influence on other leaders and congregational members.

Philippians 4:6 Leaders should have an active prayer life. Seek God's will, as much as possible do God's will, and don't worry but rest in God's will.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 Leaders should pray for other church leaders, whether professional or lay.
James 5:16 When we sin against another, whether another leader or not, we should humbly confess that sin and seek reconciliation. Prayer is mentioned for the third time, seems to me prayer is very important in the life of all Christians, especially leaders.
